WHAT IS A SEED LIBRARY?

It is a collection of seeds kept for the purpose of lending them out to

the public.  People sign out seeds of their choice for free with a

simple promise t
o plant, grow, harvest and save seeds from a few of

the plants that are grown.

Of those seeds, they agree to return some of the seeds to the

Library and then enjoy keeping some seeds for their own use or to

share with the community.

HOW TO RETURN SEEDS:

Once you have collected and dried the seeds you have harvested, set aside seeds for yourself, then put some seeds to share with the Library into a paper envelope (paper is best).

Write on the envelope the following information:

  • Variety: (seed name)

  • Common name:

  • Scientific name:

  • Grower's name: (That is your name!)

  • Location of Harvest: (What town you live in)

  • Year of harvest:

  • Seeds saved from how many plants?:

  • Add any notes regarding how the plant grew, etc.

Return your seeds to the Downers Grove Library designated drop-off spot.
